The Fairfax Sustainability Center

The members of Sustainable Fairfax are currently in the process of renovating the house located across from town hall at 141 Bolinas Road into a Sustainability Center that will serve the town of Fairfax and other communities in Marin.

Help convert this...

...into this!

Once complete, the Center will house a sustainability library and video collection, a resource directory of sustainable goods and services with emphasis on those available locally, office space for Sustainable Fairfax, workshops and perhaps other organizations, a Community Exchange Board for goods that might otherwise get thrown away, a 100% post consumer recycled paper buying cooperative, to make it economically feasible for businesses and residents.

The Center will provide Fairfax with a place for people of all ages and otherwise diverse backgrounds to come together and talk about what’s important for all of us in our communities and how to work together toward our common goals.

The Center will also serve as a demonstration site for:

  • Permaculture
  • Native Wildlife Gardening
  • Gray Water/ other water conservation methods
  • Solar Energy/ other energy conservation methods
  • Composting and Worm Bins

Things have been moving along quietly but we have been backed by a tremendous amount of support by the local community.

We Need Your Help!

The building needs a lot of work and we are hoping to involve the community in creating this resource for the town. If you are interested in volunteering please contact us at the email or phone number listed below and then join us for one of the upcoming Saturday work parties (dates to be announced). Rejuvenate this old house and have fun at the same time!

We are looking for people of all ages and abilities to help us make this community resource beautiful and inspiring. Transform the yard into a permaculture garden, liven the place up with a fresh coat of paint, and get to know your neighbors!

We are asking people to do what they can, and those who put in at least 6 hours over the next couple of months will be invited to a celebration party this winter. This building is going to become a community treasure, but it needs the support of the community now to grow into its potential!

More About the Center

Rent has been temporarily donated by the owners in hopes that we will be able to pay it soon. In the mean time, our center was recently featured in a comic strip by Jeroen and Donna Lapre' of Fairfax...
