Sustainable Backyard Workshop:
Home-scale, applied Permaculture
Saturdays in downtown Fairfax this Summer!!!
Every 2nd and 4th Saturday from July 8th through October 29th Sustainable
Fairfax is conducting a hands-on workshop in the backyard of what will
become the Sustainability Center at 141 Bolinas Road. The course will
teach sustainable methods for use in backyards, community gardens, or
public green space using applied permaculture principles and practices.
It
will be taught by Permaculture practitioners from Sentient Landscape
and other instructors and will include: design, water catchment, drought
tolerant plants, composting, family gardens, food plants, plant guilds,
habitat plants, non-toxic pest control, and natural building. All
classes are held from 9am-3pm.
- Saturday, July 8th-Permaculture introduction: Design principles
and pattern observation.
- Saturday July 22nd-Harvesting water: Use of vernal ponds, tanks,
and soil contouring.
- Sat-Sun Class (open for drop in) August 12th and 13th-Natural building;
Cob oven
- Saturday August 26th-Growing living soil: Worms, composting system,
sheet mulch…
- Saturday September 9th-Creating habitat: Encouraging wildlife diversity
with boulders and herb spiral and Integrated Pest Management.
- Saturday September 23rd-Using Recycled materials: Entry gate or
mosaic on concrete.
- Saturday October 14th-Solar features in the garden.
- Sat-Sun Class (open for drop in) October 28th and 29th-Plants and
drip irrigation; native, habitat, medicinal, and food forest.
* This is not a Permaculture certification course. Class schedule may
have small changes.

- Early bird = $350 (before June 15, 2006)

June 12, 2006 = $400
Drop in ONLY:
- Sat./Sun. August 12-13: Cob Oven class-$100 (space
limited)
- Sat./Sun. Oct. 28-29: Plants and irrigation class-$100
(space limited)
